HOW DOES IT WORK?

Botox is prepared as a liquid and injected using a tiny needle into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. It then blocks the nerve impulse from reaching the affected muscle and the muscle then weakens. When this happens the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear.

WHAT DOES IT FEELS LIKE?

There is an initial minor sting for a few seconds but after that there usually no discomfort.

HOW WILL I LOOK RIGHT AFTER?

There will be some mild redness, which lasts less than an hour. Rarely, there can be a slight headache or some minor bruising and swelling. Most people return to regular activity immediately.

HOW LONG AFTER TREATMENT WILL I SEE RESULTS?

The onset of Botox is 3 – 10 days after treatment. The effects of Botox usually last three to five months, at which time another injection is required.

Juvéderm (Dermal Filler)

Juvéderm is an injectable filler (injectable facial filler), used to soften deep folds and reduce wrinkles in the faces of patients. The substance is largely hyaluronic acid, a substance normally found in the skin and muscles. Juvederm is an FDA approved product and its prime use is removing nasolabial folds, or “smile lines,” creases of skin which run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth. It is also used for lip augmentation and to fill in hollow places and scars on the face. Juvederm products are eventually absorbed by the body, usually within 9-12 months, causing the patient to undergo repeat injections to maintain the younger look.

How long does Juvederm last?

Juvederm Ultra Plus lasts 6 to 8 months, or longer.

Are there things I need to do before the treatment?

Yes, you should avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications such as Aspirin and Ibuprofen, as well as certain vitamins such as vitamin E, garlic, and gingko, for 1 week prior to the procedure to minimize the risk of bruising.

Is there downtime and are there things I shouldn't do after treatment?

There really isn't any downtime. It is normal to experience some swelling and tenderness which may last 2-3 days. You may also have some bruising which will go away within a week. It is recommended that you avoid strenuous exercise, consumption of alcoholic beverages, and extended exposure to sun or heat for up to 24 hours after your treatment.

How often do you have to go in for touch-ups?

When the effects start wearing off, you will notice a very gradual fading of its effects. At this point you will return for your next treatment. You won't need to go in for another treatment until you get to the point that you feel you need more, and this varies for everyone based on how long the results last, and your personal preference.

When do I see the results?

Immediately, although you may have some swelling, so once the swelling goes away in a day or so, you'll see the full effect.

What are the side effects?

A: Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and last less than a week. The most common side effects include, but are not
limited to, temporary injection-site reactions such as: redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration.
